3 Yoga Breathing Exercises for Weight Loss

These days it has become very common to complaint about overweight. Many medications have come into market to lose weight such as slim shakes, fat reduction oil which is to be applied on areas having fat. Rather than trying all these, wasting time and money it is very much safer and healthy to do yoga to reduce weight. One of the important facts of yoga is it helps to keep mind fresh and helps to improve concentration power. Without breathing in and out, it is waste of doing yoga. Though it helps to cut off the fat but does not remove bad toxins from body.

3 Major Benefits of Breathing Exercises:

  1. When you hold your breath and sit in a position by putting stress on any of the part in the body the blood in the body immediately goes to that part of the body and when you realize the pose the blood goes back.

The nature of the blood is, whenever there is any problem in the body, the blood in the body rushes to that place to heel the wound.

So ultimately, by breathing during yoga which helps blood in the body to circulate and reach every corner of the body.

  1. When you breathe, lungs are filled with fresh oxygen in lungs, so burns fat cells.
  2. Breathing in yoga increases metabolism rate. It stimulates thyroid glands in producing the hormones that increase metabolism rate.

There are many breathing exercises which can be done alone sitting at one position. In yoga breathing exercises are called “Pranayama”. Now let us know about few of them.

Kapalabhati

Kapalabhati is a very powerful breathing exercise. Kapalabhati means kapal and bhati -shining intellect, and that’s what the regular practice of this exercise can do.  For this Kapalabhati Pranayama is considered to be an essential yoga practice.

Posture:

Sit erect placing your hands on thighs and close your eyes. Take deep breathes. Inhale and hold that for ½ second. Then exhale, hold it for ½ second. Do this continuous. Complete 20 cycles in 15 seconds. Remain in this pose for 5 mins at least. Just concentrate deeply, this effect on mind.

Bhastrika Pranayama

Bhastrika Pranayama is about inhaling and exhaling so that your body gets enough amount of oxygen. Person with high blood pressure or heart stroke should not perform this.

Posture:

Sit in padmasana or vajrasana. Rest your hands on knees and take deep breaths. In Bhastrika Pranayama you need to take deep breaths such that your abdomen does not blow up but your chest should blow up. See that air is filled in lungs and oxygen contain needed is received to the body.

Anulom Vilom Pranayama

Anulom Vilom is one of the most effective exercises that help to purify the mind and body. Benefits of Anulom vilom Pranayama are curing most of the internal body conditions and in releasing stress and anxiety.

Posture:

Sit in padmasana and close your eyes and relax in this position for a few minutes till you settle down. With your right thumb, close your right nostril. Breathe in from your left nostril. Hold the breath for a couple of seconds. Open right nostril and breath out. With middle and ring finger close left nostril. Breathe in from right nostril, close the right nostril. Open left nostril and breathe out. Repeat again. Do this for about 5-6 minutes per day.

Bhramari Pranayama:

Posture:

Sit in padmasana and close eyes. Then with your thumb close both your ears. Press lightly on your closed eyes, with the middle finger. Lightly press your temples, with the index finger. Then put your ring fingers and little fingers on your nose. Now take a longer breath through nose and exhale through nose. Repeat this for 21 times.

Surya Namaskar:

It also known as “Sun Salutation”. It is a set of 12 exercises that should be done by inhaling and exhaling. And one set should be repeated 12 times. This is a very great breathing exercise that reduces weight also.

Seated Spinal Twist: 

Sit down and stretch your legs then bring your left heel to your right buttock and twist your right hand back. Then cross your right leg from above the left side by slightly bending it. Then put your left hand on the right heel. Then breathe in and breathe out. It flushes out the toxins at the liver and helps in burning fat.
